Wellstruck interview with entrepreneur Amanda Jefferson of Indigo Organizing Sarah Zero

Tell us about your business!

Amanda: I’m Amanda Jefferson, owner of Indigo Organizing and one of the world’s first KonMari consultants.

I left an inspiring yet stressful 20-year career to start my own business because I believe that we are all too frazzled. We have too much stuff, not enough joy, and not enough time for the things that matter to us.

I spend my time in one of two ways:

  1. working one-on-one with private clients to simplify and de-clutter their homes, or

  2. speaking to groups about finding more joy and simplicity in our work and lives.

Somewhere in there, I find time to blog twice a month and share on Instagram (@indigo_organizing).

What accomplishment are you celebrating right now?

Amanda: 2019 was a big year for my business. I more than doubled revenue over 2018, and I was asked to serve alongside Marie Kondo as an official instructor on the KonMari team. I got to do tons of speaking and teaching, which I LOVE. Can't wait to see what 2020 holds.

What keeps you motivated?

Amanda: I LOVE passing along nuggets of wisdom that can make a drastic difference in someone's life. I spend a lot of time researching the latest findings related to psychology, habit science, happiness, and productivity, and I get a ton of satisfaction out of passing along the best tools and advice available to us today on how we can live more peaceful and productive lives.

What's one tip you want to share with other entrepreneurs?

Amanda: Focus on what's fun and easy! As business owners, we try to do all the "shoulds". By taking a step back and figuring out what you're really good at AND what you really love doing, you can bring so much more energy (and sales!) into your business.

What's your favorite app or resource of the moment?

Amanda: Acuity Scheduling* — it runs by business in the background. I couldn't live without it.

What are you listening to lately?

Amanda: Favorite podcasts: Happier with Gretchen Rubin and How I Built This with Guy Raz; Current music: My 7-year-old daughter's Spotify playlist — lots of Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Sia, and Rachel Platten; and Ray LaMontagne (especially while doing the dishes).

What are you crushing on?

Amanda: Marie Forleo — I'm re-reading her book Everything is Figureoutable for the second time.

What inspirational words resonate with you recently?

Amanda: “The day you stop racing, is the day you win the race.” —Bob Marley
