Start an Email List

Your audience is arguably the most important part of your brand. If your social media accounts were to disappear tomorrow — do you have any way of reaching the following you've worked so hard to grow? This is the exact reason there's so much buzz in the entrepreneur world about the importance of growing your email list.

How to start an e-mail list in four easy steps:

  1. Commit. If it's been on your to-do list forever — no more excuses! It's time to commit, and it's easier to start than you might think. Starting to collect your audience's email addresses doesn't mean you have to have a whole email campaign or monthly newsletter figured out yet. Just start collecting.

  2. Pick an email marketing service. We like MailChimp, and it's great for beginners because it has a free option as long as you have less than 2,000 subscribers. We've also heard great things about ConvertKit. We're less keen on Constant Contact, which is a bit clunky in terms of design and user interface. (Nope, this isn't a paid ad for MailChimp — we just really like it! 😂)

  3. Start collecting. Once you have an account, find your signup URL. Start sharing that URL with your social media followers, in the footer of your website, and maybe even in your email signature.

  4. Customize. If you have a little more time, you can brand your Mailchimp subscribe form, add a custom subscribe page to your website, and start brainstorming about your hook — your promise that tells people why it's worth subscribing.

...and that's it! You can always fine-tune the details later on, but don't let the details stop you from getting started in the first place. Then, once you're ready to start sending emails, know that we're here to help if you'd like a branded email template!
