Tell us about your business!

Beth: After I was laid off in November of 2017, I decided to create my own business. After agonizing over names, I decided to name my business after myself — Beth Lawrence LLC. I help corporate clients and startups produce events and experiences to connect to their target audiences in a meaningful way. I've worked with businesses and conferences in the hospitality, tech, blockchain, cannabis, fitness, and service industries to build and elevate their brand presence and events.

What accomplishment are you celebrating right now?

Beth: I reached out to a potential client (cold email) that I admired — another woman in the cannabis event business, based in New York, and asked if she needed assistance with the logistics of her events. She's someone who, I think, has a very keen sense for business and is very smart with where she's taking her business. I wound up signing with her and am now producing five events this year!

What keeps you motivated?

Beth: The biggest reward, for me, is seeing people connect with one another, have a good time, and create memories. Whether it's an anniversary party for a corporate firm, a pop-up shop for a startup that's connecting IRL to its target audience for the first time, or a multi-day convention. Another huge reward is the sleep I get when the event is over, and everything (hopefully!) went as planned.

What's one tip you want to share with other entrepreneurs?

Beth: Go with your gut and stick to your value. It's ok to say "no," to a potential client or opportunity because you're making way for another one to come. That, and pay taxes quarterly.

What's your favorite app or resource of the moment?

Beth: Planoly.

What are you listening to lately?

Beth: Meditation Minis Podcast, Martinis & Murder Podcast, This Week in MJBiz Podcast.

What are you crushing on?

Beth: I've always loved Kelly Cutrone, currently crushing on Lizzo, Issa Rae, and Mary Alice Duff (of Alice Alexander).

What inspirational words resonate with you recently?

Beth: "I'm tough, ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay." AND I have an affirmation where I affirm who I am, what I do, and my goals.
