Let's get to know her

Q: What's your current guilty pleasure?

A: Coffee Chip Taharka Brothers ice cream on a cone with sprinkles!

Q: What are you listening to lately?

A: How I Built This podcast with Guy Raz — I cannot get enough of it!

Q: What's your favorite app or resource of the moment?

A: Aaptiv — it is a great guided workout app that is motivational, always offering something new and inspirational.

Q: Who are you crushing on?

A: Audrey Woollen, founder of Urbanic in LA.

Q: Current mantra (or phrase, or Affirmation...)?

A: Be where your feet are. Between being a mom to an almost 4-year old, wife, and business owner, I have so much going on in my life sometimes it is hard to be present. For this reason my mantra right now is "Be where your feet are" it helps to keep me grounded and focused on where I am at that moment. I find this to be extremely important when I am at home with my family.

Q: Tell us about your business.

A: I own Becket Hitch, a curated home boutique, perfectly positioned in Lutherville, Maryland just north of Baltimore! We just celebrated Becket Hitch's third anniversary and I am so excited for all the exciting things to come in the future.

Becket Hitch excites and inspires our customers to create a unique expression of themselves in their homes and through their gift giving. Each item in the shop has been chosen to enhance a room, inspire a moment, and provide quality goods for everyday living.

Q: What accomplishment are you celebrating right now?

A: I graduated in April 2017 from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in their inaugural cohort in Baltimore. It was such an honor to be in the program and I am so excited to utilize all of the new knowledge that I have as I continue to grow my business.

Q: What keeps you motivated?

A: I love getting up and coming into the shop every day. I never feel like I am going to work. I always feel like I am living my dream and that is remarkable.

Owning this shop has been a dream of mine since I was 17 and being able to run it successfully, support my family and provide jobs in the community are what motivate me to grow and make Becket Hitch so much more than just a shop!

Q: What's one (or two!) tip(s) you want to share with other entrepreneurs?

A: You need to have passion. If you do not deeply love what you are doing, and have passion for it get out. Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart so you need to have that love and drive to sustain you when there is a bump in the road.

Manage by the numbers! Numbers do not lie, understand them and what they mean for your business and how you need to react based on what they are telling you!

Q: Why should others join us for lady boss?

A: Being an entrepreneur has lots of positives but the biggest downside for me is that it can feel isolating and lonely at times. Being able to have a community where you can share, get advice, have a shoulder to lean on and draw encouragement is key for me. I cannot stress enough how important it is for us ladies to support and rally around one another. Lady Boss provides a great platform for that I am so thankful that I have found the community!
