Let's get to know her

Q: What's your current guilty pleasure?

A: Mindless reality TV after a long day of work...(Are you the one?, Vanderpump Rules, Big Brother...)

Q: What are you listening to lately?

A: Lately, I've been blasting Sia in the car...she's my go-to for driving to and from work. Her music is so empowering!

Q: What's your favorite app or resource of the moment?

A: Complete Anatomy 3d! Great resource for anyone working with the body. It also helps my patients understand the anatomical structures involved in their injury.

Q: Who are you crushing on?

A: There are a few woman that work in my field that continue to inspire me to push myself.

Q: Current mantra (or phrase, or Affirmation...)?

A: "If you can do something about it, why worry? And if you can't do something about it, why worry?" I think it's a Buddhist proverb.

What makes her a boss

Q: Tell us about your business.

A: I am an Acupuncturist and owner of Renew Acupuncture. I opened my office in the Society Hill area of Philadelphia in 2011. I practice a few different styles of acupuncture, but I specialize in Orthopedic Acupuncture and Trigger Point Dry Needling. Most of my patients have some kind of pain (chronic, acute, headaches, back/neck, sports injuries, postural pain, etc), but I treat anything from infertility to digestive issues.

Q: What accomplishment are you celebrating right now?

A: A lot of my patients work 9–5 jobs and can only come see me during evening hours. I found myself at my office till 9pm most weeknights and it was becoming exhausting. I had no time for self-care or even to eat dinner at a normal hour. It was affecting everything from my mood to digestion! A couple of months ago I expanded my office and can now see two patients at once. Less hours of work, more time for myself!

Q: What keeps you motivated?

A: Patients usually come to me after two failed surgeries, 6 months of Physical Therapy and 10+ years of pain. Many times they are seeing me to appease a family member who is sick of hearing them complain. By the time they get to my office they have just about given up on the idea of being pain free. When they lay on my table, and I start putting in the needles and their pain starts to shift, lessen or even completely disappear, they have this look that I like to describe as a mix of shock, anger, and happiness. They are shocked because acupuncture works, angry because they have been in pain for so long and none of their doctors told them to try acupuncture, and happy because for the first time in a long time, they are pain free. That look is my motivation. Giving people hope that they do not have to live the rest of their lives in pain is my motivation.

Q: What's one tip you want to share with other entrepreneurs?

A: Ask for referrals! Some clients just don't know they are supposed to tell their friends and family about how much you have helped them. Also, ask them to write reviews on yelp, google etc. Personalized reviews, like on yelp or google, can be really helpful when you are first starting out.

Q: Why should others join us for lady boss?

A: Being a small business owner can be really isolating when you have lots of questions and no one to turn to for answers. Lady boss gives you a community of like-minded women who you can turn to if you are feeling stuck, have a question or need inspiration. It feels good to be a part of a community of women who truly want each other to succeed!
